EL PASO, Texas -- About 1,500 Soldiers assigned to 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, are gearing up to deploy to Afghanistan this winter. The brigade will support Operation Freedom's Sentinel by advising and assisting their Afghan counterparts.
To prepare for the deployment, the unit completed a rotation in December at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California. Soldiers trained with subject matter experts from 3rd Battalion, 353rd Regiment, Joint Regional Training Center, Fort Polk, Louisiana. Nearly every expert has experience as a liaison or advisor downrange.

FORT HOOD, Texas -- The 29th Infantry Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion completed a one-week Mission Rehearsal Exercise with First Army at Fort Hood, Texas, Dec. 2.
More than 400 Maryland and Virginia Army National Guard Soldiers participated in the MRX. They were supported by approximately 650 Soldiers from First Army and U.S. Army Central.

WASHINGTON -- Defense Secretary Ash Carter thanked the senior noncommissioned officers he calls his "eyes and ears" with the force as he addressed the 2016 Defense Senior Enlisted Leader Council at the Pentagon Wednesday morning.
Chaired by Army Command Sgt. Maj. John Troxell, the senior enlisted advisor to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the council consists of the service and combatant command senior enlisted advisors. Troxell calls it "the Top 25." The council is the only time all the senior enlisted leaders get together each year.
